Focusing on You

You are creative, resourceful and whole

This is the place where somatic coaching begins. You have the resources and wisdom within, and I simply support you to connect with your felt sense and integrate your full experience. It is a time of embodied discernment—noticing what’s present, asking questions and listening for answers from your whole self. There might be rest, enjoyment, grief, numbness, curiosity and play.

Client-led

Who and what do you love? My approach to somatic coaching centers what you care about and how you want to be living. We can explore what is getting in the way and how your body might be giving you answers for new ways of being, communicating and acting. If you feel a sense that you want to make a change in any aspect of your life, let’s hold space for it. This time is for you.

Move at the speed of trust

Sometimes it can feel challenging to go into the body when we can hold so much emotional and physical pain inside. We move together at what adrienne maree brown refers to as “the speed of trust.” This allows a spaciousness of becoming aware of your feelings, sensations and intuition at your own pace. Through practice, you can begin utilizing these tools anywhere. You can be present to the other people in the room, to the ecology and environment, and notice how our nervous system responds (fight, flight, shut down, fawn). In this way, you can create a new capacity for change in your body and practice how that is also connected to collective change-making.

We practice embodied self awareness

Each session we begin by getting clear about what you want to focus on and what will be most helpful for our time together. I can offer a practice to help you get more into your body-mind as you discern what is emerging. Then I listen and hold space for where you want to go. I might offer some somatic practices or tools, and you always have a choice of whether you want to try one or not. Near the end we will spend time integrating what you experienced and anything that you are taking with you from the session (intentions, movements, ideas).

Embodiment is not about whether you are tall or short, thin or thick, soft or hard. It is about how the miracle that you inherently are gets expressed in and through physical form. It is about how the unique you of you shows up clothed in all the magnificent glory that is your body. It is about letting more and more of your truest, deepest, most miraculous self have expression in and positive impact on the world.

I work with:

  • Individuals who want to feel more at home in their body, and cultivate practices for holding joy, pleasure and awe amidst challenge and grief. We can also look at patterns you want to shift with yourself or in relationships, and focus on resourcing and regulating your nervous system.

  • Parents seeking balance and reconnection with themselves. This can include tuning into your own feelings, desires, needs and intuition, as well as exploring how you want to be parenting. We can explore the ways your body is sending biological signals of support.

  • People interested in practicing embodied anti-racism by becoming aware of your nervous system and conditioned tendencies around race. I also work with parents wanting to incorporate an embodied approach to raising anti-racist children.

  • Entrepreneurs, artists, activists, and athletes wanting to slow down and realign with their values and priorities. We can clarify purpose and explore full body-visioning, dreaming and discernment.

  • People interested in connecting more to nature through eco-somatics, or anyone experiencing ecological grief, guilt or climate anxiety due to climate change-related environmental degradation. This also includes parents trying to raise children while navigating these emotions and concerns.

  • Professionals who are looking to make a change or who are experiencing burnout. This can be an opportunity to move through transition with alignment and integrity.
